Looking for Kanihua and Quinoa…
May started with a trip to the highlands in Peru, in the “altiplano”, specifically to the región of Puno, department which capital city is named Puno too, and is at the banks of the Titicaca Lake, at 3,800 mts over sea level, the tallest navigable lake in the world.
We went to Organic Kanihua fields, already harvested, where the Kanihua plants were drying for later threshing and cleaning. Kanihua is a very Little seed, full of nutrients like calcium, protein, magnesium, Vitamin E, aminoacids, B-complex, Omega 6 & 9 amongst others. Easy to digest, is gluten-free and provides great energy.
Here you can find some pictures of the Kanihua treshing process by the locals… 100% organic!
Next day, we went to another valley in Puno región, looking for late blooming fields of gorgeous Quinoa 100% organic. Last 3 pictures are of this visit. Finally, we enjoyed an ancient lunch with the local farmers, consisting of fresch harvested potatoes baked on the ground in a very ancient way and called “guatiada”, with fresh White cheese and a mix of vegetables. We all share a wonderful time!
Quinoa in the Peruvian coastal desert…. amazing!
One of our great producers in Peru, invested in a private project to grow organic quinoa in the coastal northern desert of Peru. Their goal is to have 100% organic Quinoa, with absolutely no pesticide or herbicide traces… seems they are making it. All the expertise and ancient knowledge of the Andean high-plateau crops were used in the desert coast.
This Quinoa will make it´s way to our clients very soon!
